Social
The ecological issue is one of the main concerns of Döhler’s social balance. Through several actions focusing on the environmental balance the company believes to be doing its share in the construction of a healthy planet. In this process, the employees are the focus of campaigns and of training and awareness programs.
It’s a strategic concern to motivate and qualify professionals to face the challenges of the new century, inside and outside the plant.
Check here some of Döhler’s practices in the social responsibility field.
- The company’s internal communication is transparent with face-to-face meetings and the employees have, at their disposal, newspapers, intranet and a service station with internet connected computers.
- The implementation of PPR, Result Participation Program, stimulates participative management through interdisciplinary teams created in all areas seeking after the best ways to reach the organization’s results.
- It fosters technical and behavioral trainings related to each year’s corporate goals.
- Aiming to make information available to everyone, the company carried out a two-year special training program about leadership, problem analysis and decision making, creativity and innovation and interpersonal communication that simultaneously reached 100% of its employees.
- Ergonomics specialists analyze the correct adequacy of work stations to suit people’s needs, having made several physical improvements in some of them by replacing pieces of equipment and accessories. They have also introduced labor gymnastics, a healthy routine all over the plant now.
- The “Life & Health Pregnancy” Program prepares the mothers-to-be for motherhood through guiding lectures and differentiated labor gymnastics.
- The benefit package includes scholarships, dental & medical assistance, health insurance plan, food, basic education, club, Friendly Hand Project, Lean Manufacturing Program, and others.
- The company has also developed a partnership with Florianópolis’s Right Whale Institute (IBF) that carries out studies and researches about the ocean ecosystem. Among some results of this partnership, we can mention an educational exhibition visited by almost 8 thousand people, mostly students.
Actions
- “Being committed to Nature is as important as breathing”, repeatedly says Döhler’s CEO. Know the company’s main environmental actions.
- In 2004, the company signed a partnership with the Right Whale Institute (Instituto Baleia Branca), a non-governmental organization with headquarters in Praia do Rosa, south of Santa Catarina, dedicated to the right whale preservation, a species that comes to this region to breed and feed their calves. For a long time, this species of whale was endangered. Döhler supports the Institute’s educational actions and researches.
- It keeps a forested reserve of 300 thousand square meters and one of the first private landfills created in Brazil, where the solid waste of the industrial wastewater treatment station is deposited.
- Certificate for the Right to Use Water Resources. Döhler is the first company in Santa Catarina State to be granted the right to use the water resources by the State Government.
In 1995, Döhler joined other companies gathered by a German Institute to study the reuse of industrial starch, in a project called Ecogoman. At that time, the company searched for the best worldwide environmental management practices by visiting European industries.
- Nowadays, around one third of the water used in industrial processes is reused in the production area, after being treated at the Wastewater Treatment Station (WTS). The company’s goal is to reach 50% of reused water to reduce even more the use of natural resources. Döhler started operating its WTS in 1983. Years later, it implemented another station to treat wastewater.
- Still concerned with the environmental balance, Döhler uses water in lieu of chemical solvents and has replaced the oil of boilers and heaters for natural gas and biomass, thus reducing significantly the amount of gases in the atmosphere. Döhler is constantly researching alternative energy sources.
- In order to raise its employee’s awareness, it promotes internal campaigns and cheerful jamborees on dates such as the World Water Day and the Tree Day, approaching the rational use of natural resources.
- It practices – and also encourages – the recycling of waste such as paper, plastic and metal.
